# Adoption

**Adoption is how widely a tool is actually used. Stars approximate attention; real adoption blends multiple signals like dependents, releases, and backing.**

**Adoption** is the degree to which people rely on a tool in practice. No single number captures it: stars measure attention, not use; downloads, dependents, release cadence, and who backs a project all add evidence.

Treating any one metric as "adoption" is misleading, which is why serious comparisons blend several signals.

## In GraphCanon

GraphCanon deliberately avoids ranking on raw stars alone. The goal is a multi-signal view of adoption and backing so popularity does not masquerade as fitness.
